I would like to check out the school, can I stop by?
Feel free to come by anytime there is a class. Watch a full class if you would like. Check our schedule for class times.
What can I expect from my first class?
Depending on your experience, you will be paired with an instructor who will introduce you to the various components of the class and basic techniques. You will have personal attention for the first several months and you will set your own pace of learning with thoughtful and safe guidance along the way.
General Etiquette:
- Remove all jewelry. This is to prevent injury to you as well as to anyone you may be partnered with during class.
- Do not bring any valuables to class - we are not responsible for anything lost or stolen.
- Trim your fingernails and toenails.
- Keep your gi, workout clothes, and other training gear clean. Workout attire must be washed between classes.
- Wipe mats, pads, and bags after class, if applicable.
- Bare feet only on the mats and when walking off the mats. Please put on flip-flops or other footwear when using the restroom.
- Dues are due the first week of every month. Please see Coach Tom if you need to make other arrangements.
Do I need a uniform (gi) to start class?
No, but it would be good to have one. If you'd just like to try a practice or are unable to purchase one prior to starting class, we can provide a loaner uniform (just the top) for class.
Where do I get a gi and other gear?
Gi's, training gear, hydration and protein supplements can be purchased at discount through Coach Tom.
Why do you bow in class?
Bowing in martial arts is a gesture of respect, for your opponent, and the dojo in which you train.
Will I get to spar?
You will spar (randori) in a safe and controlled way with our senior students, usually from the very first day.
